There was a fire at Longcroft in the early hours of wedesday morning which found a woman needing CPR

 

Female resident in her 90s who died in the Longcroft flat fire, has been named as Margaret McKeever, also known as “Madge”.

 

She had lived in her Longcroft flat for 30 years and was described by one neighbour as “a lovely woman”.

Fire crews from Watford and Garston were alerted by an automatic fire alarm and got the the scene just before 4am on Wednesday.

 

The firefighters discovered a small fire in the bedroom of the property and extinguished the blaze.

 

They rescued the occupant – a woman in her 90s – before administering CPR by East of England Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital where she failed to revcover and later died.

 

The Watford observer reported

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service area commander Andy Hopcraft saying:

“We currently believe that the fire started accidentally, but a fire investigation is now taking place to establish the cause.”

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time.

 

Ben Johnson, director of operations at Watford Community Housing Trust, added:

“Our thoughts are with the family of the woman and we would like to offer our deepest sympathies at this difficult time. We are working with them to provide all the help and support we can.

 

WCHT announced on their front page as "Longcroft – incident of fire" were working closely with an investigation with Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
