Meriden Development

Watford's Meriden estate could be enlarged by 90 new homes

Watford Community Housing Trust want to provide new homes for local people - and they want to do this in a way that enhances the Meriden and makes it a better place for everyone. They say "we have looked at other improvements too, including new green spaces, new play spaces and a brand new shopping area".

More than 120 residents attended Watford Community Housing Trust’s exhibition to view and comment on its plans to build 141 homes, a new shopping area and revamped community areas.

Euan Barr, head of new business at the trust, said: "For 18 months, we have been talking to residents about regenerating the Meriden, and their ideas have shaped the proposals we have displayed.

Following planning approval in October 2015, and undertaken an extensive tender exercise and hope to appoint a contractor for the scheme soon. Negotiations have been with all of the existing retail operators on the details for relocation to the shopping parade. The aim to gain vacant possession over several garage blocks in the area and are hoping to begin work on the scheme shortly.
