Drugs Search Arrests 2017

Home Office 12 month report between May 2016 and April 2017.

1st - Cheshunt at 217

2nd - Welwyn Hatfield West with 213.

3rd - East Herts Rural, which includes Buntingford and Ware, with 190 offences.

4th - Watford Central with 155, and Watford North 7th with 128

5th - Hemel Hempstead North, Rural, West and Central with 151, and 10th Hemel Hempstead East with 114.

  • Sep 27 - 18 year old charged with possession and cultivation of cannabis.

    Officers executing a warrant at an address in Hoddesdon have arrested a man after discovering suspected cannabis.

    Marcel Samuels, aged 18, of Rye Road, Hoddesdon, has been bailed to return to North East Herts Magistrate’s Court on 25 October.

    Detective Inspector for Broxbourne Tom Leeks said: “We are keeping up the pressure on those involved in the supply of drugs and related anti-social behaviour and crime in the borough, and this operation showed how we will act on intelligence received. Residents can make a real difference by reporting their concerns about an address or suspicious activity in their area.”


  • Sep 14 - Hitchin cannabis factory busted open as London officers make eight arrests.

    Armed officers from the Met’s London Crime Squad raided a commercial premises in Hitchin’s Bury Mead Road industrial area at about 6am, with support from a Herts police helicopter and officers.

    Eight warrants were executed in the capital as part of the same swoop, with a second cannabis factory found there. About £4,000 in cash was seized.

  • “Eight people – seven men and one woman, aged between 26 and 57 – have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs, and currently remain in police custody at a central London police station.”

    Leigh Windsor, of Ramerick Gardens in Arlesey, grew scores of cannabis plants in Unit 10 of the former turkey farm off Stevenage Road in Todds Green – which is now an industrial site.

     PC Pete Lea, of the Operational Support Group, said afterwards: “I am pleased with Windsor’s sentence as it sends a clear message to any would-be drug dealers that we will crack down on this type of activity in our communities.

    Windsor admitted possessing class A and B drugs with intent to supply, as well as being involved in growing the plants, when he appeared before Stevenage magistrates in March.

     

    A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing has been scheduled for October 27 to explore whether the state can recover any money made by Windsor as a result of these offences.

  • Mar 20 - Cannabis worth thousands is seized and three are arrested in Letchworth

    Police in North Herts seized £13,500 worth of cannabis on Wednesday, March 15 after they stopped a vehicle in Hethermere, Letchworth.

     

    Officers from the North Herts Intervention team, who deal with emergency response queries, were on routine patrol at around 8pm when they spotted a white van that appeared to be travelling at speed.

     

    The officers indicated for the van to pull over and after a thorough search of the vehicle they discovered a black bin liner containing approximately 53 ounces of cannabis.

     

    The three men who were inside the van were promptly arrested on suspicion of Possession of a Class B Drug with intent to supply. They include:


    - A 35 year old man from London.
    - A 31-year-old man from Hitchin.
    - A 38-year-old man from London.
    -
    All three men have been released on police bail and are due to return to Stevenage Police Station on May 15.

 

Gun and Knife Crime 2017

Figures for the 12 months to March show a 20 per cent surge in knife and gun crime across the country.

 

 

Assaults / Sexual or Violence

  • Oct 25 - A man who raped a teenage girl in an east London park has been jailed.

    Morrow was arrested and charged on Wednesday, 19 April with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl at Leyton Jubilee Park.

     

    She said that Morrow approached her in the park and asked for a light for a cigarette. They both sat together and talked. He asked her to assist him with moving some items in the park and she agreed to help.

     

    Once they were in a secluded area of the park, Morrow pushed the teenager to the floor, sexually assaulted her and then raped her.

     

    Investigating officer Detective Constable Henry Marshall, said: “This was a horrible attack on a girl who innocently wanted to help Morrow when he asked for help. He abused her trust, deceived and then caused her further physical and psychological harm.

     

    He was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 20 October to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 16 years and has also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

     

 

CCTV appeal after teenage girl sexually assaulted

Just after 12:10hrs on Wednesday 19 July, a 15-year-old girl was walking along Bethnal Green Road close to the junction with Jersey Street, when the suspect approached her from the opposite direction and sexually assaulted her.

 

The suspect is described as a white man in his mid 30s with short brown hair and a goatee beard. He was wearing a white t-shirt, dark green walking trousers and red flip flops. He carried a sports bag over his right shoulder.

 

DC Thomas Patzer, from Tower Hamlets CID, said: "I need to identify the man shown in the CCTV footage. I urge anyone who may know his identity, or who witnessed the incident, to contact police."
